The
mysterious properties of wine possess natural medicinal and
disinfectant properties that make it an important part in religious
ceremonies. In this respect, wine and cigars share a common place with rituals. Dionysus, the wine god, was an important element in
Ancient Greece and the grape vine was always respected. The founder of
Christianity is often referred to as "The True Vine". Jesus turned water to wine during a wedding celebration and the wine also represents the blood of Christ-the source of life reflecting change from one element to another. Dionysus is also
linked to the bull and depicted with bull horns. Other religious figures
associated with wine, particularly red wine, is Catholic Saint Santa Barbara and in Santeria
Chango. Worshipers offer red wine to petition their wishes.
