The
Yecuana of Venezuela believed that women were
formed from clay that came to life when tobacco smoke passed over its
surface. There are many carved monuments depicted Mayan deities as smokers. The
Iroquois of New York used tobacco as a dental remedy because it
anesthetized the pain of tooth decay. Certainly, after dinner, smoking tobacco was
a common practice among the upper Aztec classes.
