Lector, Cigar Roller and Blender


La Palina cigars has a long history dating back to the 1920's. It sprang into existence by a "lector"-  A cigar tradition that assigns someone to read the newspapers for the cigar rollers.  This person was named "Samuel Paley" eventually became a roller and blender. He started his own cigar shop in 1896 and the cigar La Palina was named in honor of his wife. The brand ended in 1926.  Last year of June 2010 the cigar was launched by Sam's grandson Billy Paley. Graycliff Cigar Company, Nassau, Bahamas is where the relaunched of La Palina cigars are hand produced.
