It is mentioned often that cigars go great with spirits. The term spirit refers to a distilled beverage that contains no added sugar and has at least 20% alcohol by volume. This will include hard liquor. By contrast, all alcoholic beverages other than beer and wine are generally referred to simply as spirits. On another note, spirit comes from Latin as spiritus, meaning breath; hence this is the spiritual connection with cigars as you breathe the energy of air, fire, earth(actual cigar) and rum (spirits).
