The grape vine is an extraordinary plant that produces a fascinating liquid called "wine". The vine was cultivated by the peoples of Mesopotamia, the ancient Egyptians, the Babylonians and Sumerians. As soon as men began to depict themselves and their occupations and to write, the vine and wine were constantly mentioned. Wine being an enjoyable drink possess natural medicinal and disinfectant properties, and was used as a precaution against infection in regions where the water supply might be suspect.
